CyberNova (2026)
A Cyberpunk themed Oric demo released in June 2026 at the Nova demoparty Oldskool compo.Xeron and h0ffman have been releasing Oric demos at Nova three years in a row: "no problem" in 2023, "his masters rasters" in 2024, and finally "no sleep til budleigh" in 2025.
Unfortunately Xeron said he would not be able to deliver an Oric demo for 2026, so I took the mantle and promised I'll try to get something done - knowing that h0ffman was fine making a soundtrack if needed.
It took me a while to come up with an idea, but then I had a revelation: The party is called Nova, my current Oric daily driver is the Oric Nova, so let's focus on the "Nova" thing.
I had been playing Cyberpunk for a while now, and "Nova" is part of the everyday vocabulary of Night City dwellers:
From there it all came up naturally.
We are in 2026, and quite a few things happened in this period of time in the Cyberpunk universe, but for CyberNova the two following points are important:
- 2022: Rach Bartmoss (legendary hacker) dies, resulting in the DataKrash virus release
- 2023: The Arasaka headquarter is nuked, resulting in extreme pollution and damaged climate
CyberNova plays a few years after these events, the main protagonist is a dealer in vintage tech from before the DataKrash, things that are useful in a world that tries to rebuild itself.
